Saints’ Chris Olave, Taysom Hill expected to play vs. Chargers

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave cleared concussion protocol on Friday, putting him in line to play in Sunday’s host game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Olave was injured in New Orleans’ 51-27 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 13 and sat out the Saints’ 33-10 setback to the Denver Broncos on Oct. 17.

Olave, 24, has 23 catches for 280 yards and one touchdown in six games (all starts) this season. He has totaled 182 receptions for 2,445 yards and 10 touchdowns in 37 career games (26 starts) since being selected by New Orleans with the 11th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Also on Friday, the Saints (2-5) listed tight end Taysom Hill as a full participant in practice and removed him from the injury report. He sat out New Orleans’ previous two games due to a rib injury.

“Obviously, getting guys back that you planned on being starters, you planned on counting on, and in particular some of these guys are kind of key cogs in what we do offensively,” Saints head coach Dennis Allen said. “Hopefully we’re able to get the majority of these guys back and be more consistent offensively. We’ve done some good things, we’ve moved the ball at times, but then we’ve made some critical mistakes that have cost us. Hopefully that will help us be better.”

Quarterback Derek Carr (oblique) is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game for the Saints, while guard Nick Saldiveri (shoulder) and wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. (hip) have been ruled out.
